Vikings target victory the fair way

WIDNES will be looking to win fairly and squarely when they receive Dewsbury in The Co-operative National League One this Sunday.

Vikings and Rams lie first and second, respectively, in the division’s Frontline Fair Play index on account of their good disciplinary record.

The team finishing top of the ‘merit table’ at the end of the season will receive a £5,000 prize from Frontline Bathrooms and an engraved trophy.

But Vikings coach Steve McCormack will also be concentrating efforts on helping his players to move on from Tuesday’s announcement Widnes had not received a three-year engage Super League licence.

The Vikings let a healthy lead slip away at Halifax on Sunday – eventually drawing 26-26, but McCormack is remaining positive.

He said: “We probably should have got the win last week but it was two points gained.

“We’re certainly getting better and we showed that we’re a force to be reckoned with.

“It’ll be a very tough game against Dewsbury. They’re desperate to get away from the bottom spot.

“They had a close result at Sheffield and I know Warren Jowitt personally and he’s a very smart bloke.

“We can’t just turn up and expect to win. We’ll have to play to our potential and do the little things that we didn’t do last week.”

Rams’ coach Jowitt could promote Lee Lingard into thestarting line-up while Gareth Greenwood may make his debut.
